October is National Head Start Awareness Month

Get ready for an exciting month of spreading the word about Head Start’s incredible impact on America’s most vulnerable children and families.

Since it was first established by President Reagan in 1982, Head Start Awareness Month (HSAM) has been our annual opportunity to share Head Start’s success stories and create new champions in our communities and the halls of Congress. Sharing this message far and wide every year is not only fun, but critical for Head Start’s continued success!
What are your plans to celebrate HSAM this October?Right now, Congress is in the midst of making final decisions about Head Start’s funding for the next fiscal year. Let’s make sure we use this year’s Head Start Awareness Month to show Congress the impact of Head Start—and why it deserves their strong investment!

So, how about getting started by inviting your members of Congress to visit your program! Congress will be back home from the first two weeks of October, returning to their home states to meet with constituents. This is the perfect time to invite them to visit your program and witness firsthand the far-reaching impact of the Head Start advantage!

In all the ways you choose to participate in HSAM, NHSA wants to support you in building knowledge of and support for Head Start’s amazing children, families, and program staff. Throughout the month, we’ll be releasing new resources every week including:Tips for making the most of the soon-to-be-released Digital Head Start Language Playbook.
