(Mandan, ND) – The National Head Start Association (NHSA) has awarded Jay Watson of the West River Head Start program in Mandan the National Head Start Parent of the Year Award.
The NHSA Parent of the Year Award is given to those parents that show exceptional leadership, teamwork, drive, and dedication to their respective Head Start programs, communities, and above all else, their families.
West River Head Start is a program affiliated with HIT, Inc in Mandan, ND.
Watson’s application went through an extremely competitive and rigorous tiered process. Watson was first chosen as the North Dakota Head Start Association’s Parent of the Year where he competed against all of the respective Head Start programs in the state and their parent nominees. Watson was then chosen the Region VIII winner where he competed against six state winners. Finally he was chosen to represent the nation where he competed against winners from the respective 12 NHSA regions.
“We are tremendously proud of Jay,” says Joe Kolosky, Vice President of HIT’s Children and Family Services program.
“Everything Jay did when he was a parent at West River Head Start, he did for the kids. His number one priority was providing the best experience for not only his child, but also all the children. And that’s what makes him deserving of this award.”
