Re:                   Head Start Hero Award

As you may recall at the NDHSA Meeting, our Committee has identified an annual award to be given to a “Head Start Hero”.  This is to give state recognition to those wonderful volunteers we have in the program that we feel deserve a little extra recognition.  This non-competitive recognition is a state award that is not submitted on to the Region VIII Head Start Association.

We would like each program (optional) to identify an individual, group, or organization that has gone over and above in volunteer service in your community.  This may be an individual (doctor, dentist, etc.), group (hospital, clinic, etc.), or organization (Kiwanis, Optimists, etc.). There is only one nominee per year per program.  Your program may have several to submit, but the process of selection (to one entry) needs to occur at the local level.  At the NDHSA level, there is no competition.  Your nominee will receive the award unless the application does not meet state criteria.

The “reward” for the Hero, is state recognition.  There will be a “Hero Board” at the annual fall conference with names posted.  A certificate and letter from the NDHSA President will be sent to them.  Local programs may want to honor them other ways.  We are still learning how this could work.  There may be several ways we develop a “circle of friends”.

We ask that each program submit their nominee on the attached form to Tammy Hoggarth, Public Relations Chair, by June 7, 2010.  The Public Relations Committee of NDHSA will work with them at their June meeting to have certificates ready for the Region VIII Conference.

Please call or e-mail with questions.  We look forward to learning about your local “heros”!
